Bearing Blocks Back in Stock
All,

Thanks for your patience -- bearing blocks are finally back in stock at www.cncrouterparts.com. The new ones are an all-aluminum design (previous design had a steel cover plate) to avoid any rust spots, and also feature better tolerances for holding the bearing, and better clearances for the inner bearing race per suggestions from my customers. The store has been updated, so those of you who have been waiting, you can finally place your orders.

As an update on the "surprise" I mentioned about a month ago, I will be releasing longer linear carriages (double the length of the current carriages) towards the end of this week. It has taken longer than expected to get the first run machined, and I had to stop and make some other parts I was running low on, but rest assured they are coming!

I am having trouble seeing your motor mounts and bearing blocks in combination with your trucks and bearing system. Do you have a photograph of a completed assembly or a drawing? How does it all go together?

Also, if someone were to build an 8020 router like the one you illustrated post #1 (which doesn't show any of the drive mechanism), am I correct in that you would need: 4 motor mounts, 8 bearing blocks, and 8 carriages, (or do you need 16 carriages to keep the gantry from racking)? Do you sell that as a package, and if so for how much?

Hi!
All good questions. Below is a drawing of an axis complete with all of my parts, along with a representation of a dumpstercnc anti-backlash nut. The only part you would need to make to get a complete axis is a means of connecting the dumpster nut to the extrusion, and I may offer this soon. Hopefully this clarifies things a little.

As for the illustration in post 1, it was intended to be driven from the center, so you would only need 3 motor mounts. However, it is also possible to drive the gantry on both sides. Depending on what option you choose, and how wide your gantry was, you might want more or fewer carriages.

I'll be releasing a longer carriage next week specifically for resisting racking. Generically, my suggestion would be 4 of those (2 for each side), and then 4 of the regular carriages for the gantry and z-axis.

Hope that helps!

Hi all,
As some of you have pointed out to me (nicely) in emails, the "part available dates" I have alluded to in this post have come and gone, and still there are no carriages for sale on my site. I'm having supplier issues, but I did want to update you all. The supplier in question (who is in the US, by the way) tells me the parts are being deburred right now. I should see both the long and standard carriaged on Friday this week. Don't hold your breath, but they should be back for sale soon. Thanks to all of you for your business and patience.

Love / Hate Relationship with USPS

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So I've become a big fan of shipping with USPS -- good rates, no international surcharges, free priority mail boxes, and instant label printing from paypal. However....

...I just spent half an hour waiting at the post office (with a million frantic people trying to get tax returns sent on time) to pick up the carriage parts I have been waiting on, since my supplier decided (randomly) to ship them with a signature confirmation, and I wasn't around when the box came.

5 o'clock rolled around, the carrier wasn't back, and they kicked me out with no package. All I can say is, "Dude, super-weak." I don't usually go for the emoticons, but this one describes pretty perfectly how I feel.

So supposedly I'll pick them up tomorrow. The updated web store is ready to be uploaded as soon as I do, so those of you who have waited patiently can order your carriages. Thanks again to all of you for hanging in there.

Parts back in stock!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

All,
Linear carriages are finally back in stock. I have updated the website so you can buy them, but you'll have to wait until this evening for pictures and CAD files of the long carriages.

Best regards,

Ahren

New longer linear carriages All,
The web store is updated with pictures of the new linear carriages -- below are some pictures for those interested. Both the original and the longer carriages are (finally) in stock and available for purchase.

STEP and pdf cad files for the parts have been added to the CAD section, and a pdf of dimensions is also posted below for the new carriages.

ahren,
Would you see any problem with mounting the 1/4 inch steel vertically on the long x axis then horz on top of the 8020?

I was thinking of having a unsupported axis. If I mounted it vertically it would help to stiffen up the axis.

Thanks!
