Foundry Technology Design and Optimization of Exhaust Manifold Castings

Abstract: Aimed at the special cases of much isolated hot-spot and impossible to set risers of exhaust manifold, the CAE software is applied to predict the position of shrinkage and shrinkage porosities defects; proportional solidification technology is applied to design pouring system and risers feeding system. The ‘wide, thin, short and declining’ riser neck is the key technology of sufficiently self-feeding by using graphite self-expansion. After optimization of process parameters, effectively overcome the manifold shrinkage defects, significantly increase the rate of melting iron use and good parts, and achieve significant economic benefits.
